Crystal Waller

Nature, pottery and art have always been compelling to Crystal. In college, she studied various arts and received a degree in interior design. Crystal explored composition, color, texture and functionality, while developing her own creative propensities. Her life’s journey has led her to open Common Clay Studio where she creates objects conceived from her interpretation of places she has experienced formed by hand and the earth’s elements – terra firma, water and fire.

To Crystal, the allure of pottery making is that it is of ancient origins with enduring qualities, limitless creativity and utility. Each piece is birthed from an idea put to clay, formed by hand, adorned with color, then fired to create enduring objects of beauty. Like the process of sanctification, the practice brings Crystal into a sacred space of contemplation, prayer and centering; reminding her that like clay, we all begin as common beings and are transformed by life’s fire to expose our unique purpose. Like pottery, life is perfectly imperfect, messy, beautiful and purposeful. The process results in an expression of art that enhances our everyday lives – yours and hers.
