Mary Lehner
Inspired by artists such as Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Wayne Thiebaud, Winslow Homer and Rex Brandt, Mary has developed her own unique style of Interpretive Realism. With this approach, she portrays richness and depth of color in her luminous watercolors, oils and acrylics. Her work captures the magic of light and its various manifestations, radiating passion through subtle prisms of color and contrast. Mary’s landscapes and seascapes exude the freshness of the plein air style, capturing the immediacy of the moment, while her still life work interprets the elements before her with a fresh and energetic perspective. Additionally, Mary has rekindled her passion for painting architectural subjects by creating renderings of many historical properties in Tennessee. Mary shares her love for art by teaching watercolor classes and workshops in Columbia, where she has resided since 2021.
Mary has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions and has showcased her work in private and public shows, galleries, restaurants and wineries. Most recently, she was accepted into the Traveling Exhibition of the Tennessee Watercolor Annual Show.
Psalm 19:1-4 continues to be her inspiration: ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.’
Mary wants to continue to push herself as an artist into new adventures and expressions that God has before her.
Mary resides in Columbia, Tennessee with her husband.
